Medicine in Tough Spaces M.I.T.S is a training and consulting company based out of Cape Town , South Africa that provides services around the country. The goal of M.I.T.S is to provide professional medical education to our students, utilising the latest training techniques and technology available. Since 2018 M.I.T.S has trained several hundred people of all ages in various fields of emergency Pre-hospital medicine. While most of our focus is on the layperson with very little or no formal medical training, we do offer specialist courses and consulting suited for healthcare professionals, providers and tactical operators. M.I.T.S offers several classes in Pre-hospital and tactical medicine.

Essentials of Prehospital Trauma Care (EPHTC)

The Essentials of Prehospital Trauma Care course was developed to fill the gap between in-person courses and education delivered at a distance. The EPHTC course covers the core lessons needed to care for the trauma patient by EMS and Prehospital providers. Additional optional modules are available as to cover sub-speciality topics. Duration 30 hours.

LAW ENFORCEMENT FIRST RESPONDER TACTICAL CARE COURSE (LEFR-TCC)

This one day (8 hour) course teaches public safety responders (police , security, firefighters and other first responders) the basic medical care interventions that will save an injured responders or victims life until EMS personnel can safely enter a tactical scene. The approach is divided into 3 phases, depending upon the tactical situation. The course combines didactic lectures with practical hands-on experience. The participant will learn life-saving medical actions such as bleeding control with a tourniquet, bleeding control with gauze packs or topical haemostatic agents and airway management.

TACTICAL EMERGENCY CASUALTY CARE (TECC)

Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) is a 2 day , 16 hour course for EMS Providers who may find themselves operating in tactical or austere environments The course is a combination of topic presentations followed by skill and escalating scenarios The course utilises the guidelines published by the Committee for Tactical Emergency Casualty Care and Carrie’s the Recognised Educational Content endorsement from C-TECC.

ESSENTIALS OF BLEEDING CONTROL

Trauma and injury result from a large number of cases including unintentional accidents or intentional harm In addition, it can occur anywhere such as at home , work or engaged in recreational activities. When someone is injured, the most common cause of preventable death is uncontrolled bleeding. Just as everyone should know how to perform CPR in the event of cardiac arrest, so too should everyone know how to control external bleeding, it is possible to help save a life , even your own.

WILDERNESS FIRST RESPONDER

Advanced training in wilderness emergency care for the wilderness professional or serious adventurer. Adapted for remote African conditions. This course is offered and hosted by our training partners Wildmedìx.

CPR for everyone

With sudden cardiac arrest , every second counts This CPR course will cover Adult , Child and Infant CPR with an additional AED module included for professional requirements.

First Aid

We cover a wide range of topics on our 3 day first aid course on completion of this course you will be able to handle any medical emergency in the home or at work.
